USC Student Sentenced for Selling LSD
A college student who reportedly boasted of selling LSD to five young people who died in a car crash has been sentenced to more than four years in prison.
Hugh “Scottie” McLetchie, a senior at the USC, was sentenced earlier this week in federal court.
McLetchie, 21, was arrested in September and pleaded guilty the next month to charges of conspiracy, selling LSD and selling LSD within 1,000 feet of a playground.
He already was under investigation when he allegedly boasted that he had sold LSD to five San Bernardino County teenagers who died in a crash Aug. 29. Their car plunged 1,200 feet off the Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest as they were returning from an all-night rave party.
“I was selling the snow cones they ate, and right after they ate my snow cones, they plunged to their deaths,” McLetchie allegedly said. “It was beautiful. The drugs I sold them did it to them.”
Prosecutors said he made the comments in front of undercover investigators the day after the crash.
A coroner’s report concluded the five had no LSD in their systems, but did have traces of other drugs. McLetchie was not charged with their deaths.
