More than 30 residents attended Wednesday night’s Planning Commission meeting to oppose a plan to build a 6-foot-high wall in a residential neighborhood, saying it may contribute to the number of speeding drivers and other traffic hazards.
The wall would be an extension of one that runs south on Puente Street from Imperial Highway to Las Riendas Drive. Puente Street is the border between Fullerton and Brea.
The wall would be 134 feet long, part of a project to enclose a 1.7-acre parcel for the development of six single-family homes, which would face a cul-de-sac. Developers said the wall is necessary because the rear of two homes would face Puente Street.
Lt. Greg Mayes of the Fullerton Police Traffic Bureau said it’s impossible to determine if a wall would contribute to speeding.
Andrew Kusch, the city’s assistant planner, said residents also protested the plan because the site houses an orange grove--indicative of Fullerton’s agricultural past--which would have to be leveled.
