1 Killed, 1 Severely Injured in Crash
A passenger was killed and a driver seriously injured when the truck they were in slammed into a light pole Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. in front of an apartment complex in the 600 block of Surfside Drive, authorities said.
The driver was apparently speeding and lost control of the vehicle on a slight bend in the road, Port Hueneme Police Cmdr. Fernando Estrella said.
“They weren’t able to make the curve and hit a light pole,” hesaid.
The name of the deceased man was not released pending notification of his family.
The driver, who also was not identified, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center.
Estrella did not know the nature of the man’s injuries but saidhe was in very serious condition.
Both men were believed to be in their 20s and residents of the county, authorities said.
