Despite a state order to clean up Aliso Creek, the city might not receive any of a $250,000 county grant to help coastal cities with urban runoff projects.

Money to pay for the Aliso Creek cleanup will come from the city’s general fund, said Ken Montgomery, director of public works.

More funding could become available if the county approves the city’s Aliso Creek abatement proposal. City officials then could see if the project is eligible for county financial assistance, Montgomery said.

The city may have to wait until the county’s Public Facilities Board proposes new diversion grants on their next year’s budget, said Holly Veale, chief of Supervisor Tom Wilson’s staff.
