Valley Secession Forum Scheduled

Share

Valley residents will get a chance Thursday to debate secession at a forum that will bring together opponents and proponents.

The Jewish Federation’s Women’s Social Action Network will sponsor the program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Skirball Cultural Center in the Sepulveda Pass.

With a $1.8-million study of secession underway, federation spokeswoman Carmen Tellez said, “We want people to come learn more and express their ideas on it.”

Scheduled to speak are Los Angeles Councilman Michael Feuer and Carlos Ferreyra, an executive board member of Valley VOTE, the secession organizing group, and president of the Latin Business Coalition.

Ferreyra said he hopes people do not make up their minds on Valley secession from the city of Los Angeles until the study is completed.

“I think because of decisions the council is making, more and more people are leaning toward incorporating,” Ferreyra said. “I still say to them: Wait until we have the facts before us.”

The Women’s Social Action Network, which has not taken a position on the issue, is charging $23 per person in advance and $27 at the door for a light dinner and the program.

The Skirball center is located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.
