The atmosphere was electric at Cielo Vista Elementary School’s science night Wednesday, when nearly 40 students and their families did hands-on experiments to learn more about electricity and magnetism.

Second-graders and their parents moved among nine lab stations, each with a different experiment dealing with electricity or magnetism, both topics in the second-grade science curriculum, said Kristen Birtja, science specialist at the school.

The event is sponsored by Project Tomorrow, a five-year, privately funded grant that gives the district $150,000 to strengthen science skills in young students.
