Overtime and home ice have been a winning combination for the Calgary Flames.

Valeri Bure scored twice, including the game-winner 3:06 into overtime as Calgary defeated Nashville, 5-4, at home Friday night for the Flames’ NHL-record ninth overtime victory of the season.

Calgary improved its overtime record to 9-1-5, breaking the NHL record of eight victories set by Winnipeg in 1987-88.

“It’s one of those records that is impressive, but we don’t want to win in overtime,” said Bure, whose first-period goal was the 100th of his NHL career. “But I guess we’ll take any win.”

The Flames have won seven consecutive at home and are 13-1-1 in their last 15 games at the Canadian Airlines Saddledome.

Marc Savard set up the winning goal, breaking into the Nashville zone and passing across to Bure, who beat goalie Mike Dunham for the Calgary forward’s 24th goal of the season.

St. Louis 3, Chicago 0--Roman Turek needed to make only 11 saves for his fourth shutout as the Blues won at Chicago.

Todd Reirden, Pavol Demitra and Mike Eastwood scored goals to help St. Louis move past Detroit for first place in the Western Conference.

The Blackhawks tied a team record for fewest shots in a game, set April 18, 1998, at Dallas.

The Blues, who had 37 shots on Jocelyn Thibault, narrowly missed setting a team record for fewest shots allowed. The record is nine, set March 4, 1999, against Toronto.

Atlanta 3, Florida 3--Yannick Tremblay scored a short-handed goal with 4:14 remaining in the third period and Norm Maracle made 37 saves, giving the Thrashers a tie with the Panthers at Atlanta.

Florida’s Pavel Bure scored his 299th career goal with 8:48 left in regulation for a short-lived 3-2 lead. But the Russian Rocket, trying to become the seventh-fastest player in NHL history to reach 300, was stopped twice in overtime on brilliant saves by Maracle.

The Atlanta goalie, who has struggled through an up-and-down season, turned aside Bure on a breakaway with 1:40 to go in the extra period, smothering a low shot. Then, Bure led a 2-on-1 with the clock winding down, firing a high shot toward the right corner of the net that Maracle gloved.

New Jersey 4, New York Islanders 0--Patrick Elias extended his scoring streak to a team-record 13 games, scoring twice and adding an assist in the Devils’ victory at East Rutherford, N.J.

Elias has 14 goals and eight assists during the streak, and has 19 goals in his last 20 games. He broke the franchise record of 12 games set by Aaron Broten in 1984-85 and tied twice.
