Handgun Owners

* Re “Unfinished Gun Laws,” editorial, Jan. 16: I do not oppose background checks for prospective handgun owners; however, your desire to require handgun owners to be licensed and maintain regular license renewals plus testing for safety goes too far.

If there is a law to require testing and licensing similar to the testing and licensing of vehicle drivers, then it follows that if anyone is required to go through the procedure for guns, they should be allowed to carry such weapons in the open, the same as they are allowed to drive autos. This way everyone will know that we are responsible gun owners and will not shoot you or make any mistakes with that weapon, because we have been tested and licensed by the authorities.
