“El Alma del Pueblo: Spanish Folk Art and Its Transformation in the Americas,” the first major exhibition to explore the folk art of Spain and its impact on Latin America and the United States, opens today at the Craft and Folk Art Museum. The survey will feature more than 200 objects, including pottery, votive offerings, household saints, religious sculpture, portrait paintings and furniture.

It’s a night of virtuoso violinists: Returning to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, American violinist Hilary Hahn, 20, plays the Beethoven Concerto three times this week while, farther south, veteran Itzhak Perlman, 54, assisted by his longtime recital partner, pianist Janet Guggenheim, plays a recital at the Cerritos Center.
