De De Perram scored four goals and assisted on two others from her two-meter position to lead the Agoura High to a 10-1 victory over Newbury Park in a Marmonte League girls’ water polo game Wednesday at Newbury Park.

The Chargers (14-6, 5-0 in league play) took a two-game lead and virtually wrapped up its second consecutive league title.

In five games, the Chargers have outscored opponents, 76-8, including a 20-2 drubbing of the second-place Panthers (14-5, 3-2) in their first meeting.

“We pride ourselves on our defense,” Coach Jason Rosenthal said. “Offense may win games, but defense wins championships.”

Agoura showed why it is the second-ranked team in Southern Section Division II by outshooting the Panthers, 19-6, and dominating at both ends of the pool.

Junior hole-setter Colleen Schiman and driver Cam Pearce each added two goals and two assists for Agoura, which led, 5-0, at halftime.

Goalie Michelle Rozzen, the Chargers’ only senior starter, made five saves, increasing her season total to 126.

“Overall, I thought we played well together,” said Perram, who leads Agoura with 42 goals. “Their pool is a lot bigger than ours and we had a little trouble adjusting.”

Senior hole-setter Erin Campbell scored for Newbury Park midway through the third quarter.

Katy Fick of Newbury Park, the Marmonte League’s leading scorer with 79 goals, played despite a sore shoulder but managed only one shot on goal.

Newbury Park, No. 6 in Division II, wasn’t fast enough to keep up with the Chargers, who scored half of their goals from point-blank range.

Agoura gained confidence from its strong showing at the Tyr Cup tournament last weekend in Los Alamitos, where the Chargers defeated Division I powers Esperanza and Long Beach Wilson and finished third.

“Our challenge will be to stay focused on winning our last three league games,” Rosenthal said.
