SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
The City Council on Tuesday will select a temporary replacement to fill the vacant council seat left by Gil Jones. The council will pick from nine local candidates, four of whom are planning commissioners.
The person selected will serve until a special election Nov. 7. The post pays $300 a month and requires 15 to 20 hours of service a week.
Councilman John Greiner said a successful candidate should understand the city and its history and know the values of the residents. The person should also have a record of community involvement and the ability to comprehend complex council issues.
The candidates include Fred Armendariz, Diane Bathgate, Anthony Bland, Michael Eggers, David Hanson, Edgar Johnson, Thomas Lytle, William Pichler and Alan Spann.
