SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A terrific place for upholstery fabrics has just opened in South Pasadena called From the Mill, a name that says it all.

Owner Pat Morales has been in the wholesale fabric business for 35 years and has traveled the world buying directly from mills. About 25% of the fabric comes from mills in Europe, including Belgium, France and Italy. The rest comes from Canada and the United States.

It’s all first quality and current, ranging in price from 20% off to way below wholesale.

Morales has an exclusive with the Bekeart Mills in Belgium, and two stunning examples are a tapestry that sells at an upscale store for $140 a yard. Here, it is $49 a yard. A particularly lush piece of chenille that would retail for about $120 a yard is tagged here at $60 a yard.

Morales caters to all tastes and prices. A lightweight damask that sells elsewhere for $28 is marked $11.75. A heavy, red satin print from Italy retails for $46, but Morales sells it for $36.90.

Tapestries, damasks, silks and some sheers for window coverings are in stock at deeply discounted prices, with an additional break for decorators.
