Security guards found the body of a man hanging from a tree on a secluded embankment inside Hollywood Park racetrack, Inglewood police Det. Russ Enyeart said Friday.

The badly decomposed body of the man, hanging from a noose and wearing a blue and gray jogging suit, was found about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. No identification cards were found inside the clothing.

“It appears to be suicide, but the incident is still under investigation pending results from an autopsy,” Enyeart said.

The man was found on the east side of the track at 99th Street and 11th Avenue, an area not visible from the racetrack or grandstand, Enyeart said.

The decomposition of the body was so severe that neither the race nor age of the male was readily evident, the detective said.

Don Barney, racetrack director of security, declined to comment.
