Slap Shots

While we didn’t score an invite to the celebrity pickup hockey game held weekly at the Iceoplex in North Hills--with the roster limited to 22 players, spots are tough to snag--we did get some dish. “What we try to avoid is people who want to pitch ideas to somebody like Jerry Bruckheimer,” says Jim Nice, an L.A. sports agent and regular player, of the exclusivity clause. “Because what it’s really about for the celebrities is the hockey.” He did at least give us the lowdown on the hockey stylings of a few industry players he’s mashed shoulder pads with:

Mike Myers, forward: “He’s got good hands and really understands the game.”

Jerry Bruckheimer, forward: “Your basic adult beginner hockey player. I can’t really liken his style of play to anybody. He doesn’t really model his game after an NHL player at this stage.”

Kiefer Sutherland, defense: “Got a good knack for the game. He’s also pretty aggressive. He likes to take the body a little bit.”

Jason Priestley, forward: “A finesse player, he’s also a pretty good skater. Of the famous actors, Jason’s probably the best.”

Cuba Gooding Jr., forward: “At a celebrity charity game, he scored a goal and proceeded to do his best ‘Slapshot’ routine, skating around the ice. He took his jersey off, his elbow pads, his helmet, and then he started taking his pants down.”
