The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley will present its annual fund-raiser, “Broadway Under the Stars,” beginning today at the Arts Council Center in Thousand Oaks. The music and theater production stars current and former members of the Conejo Valley Young Artists Ensemble. They’ll stage songs and scenes from some of Broadway’s most beloved productions.

Benefit Ride

Thousands of motorcyclists taking part in Sunday’s Beach Ride 2000 fund-raiser will end their trek with a seaside party at San Buenaventura State Beach, and the public is invited. The annual event benefits the Exceptional Children’s Foundation, which serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. Activities include Ms./Mr. Beach Ride Contest, a tattoo contest, a bike contest, a fashion show and vendors. A live music lineup includes Paul Rodgers, World Classic Rockers, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

Kites

The Cal Oaks Kite Classic will be held Sunday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Highlights will include professional kite demonstrations, Chinese kite-making and kite-decorating. Also, an air show will feature professional skydivers and World War II-era aircraft, flown by the Confederate Air Force. The first 1,000 kids will receive a free kite.

Theater

Classics in the Park, a seasonal traveling theater troupe, will present “Comedy of Errors” Sunday at Borchard Community Center in Newbury Park. The touring production is adapted for the stage by Michael Jordan and will play throughout the summer at venues in Calabasas (July 15 and Aug. 12), Simi Valley (July 16), Thousand Oaks (July 23) and Ventura (July 30).
