MetroStars Stretch Unbeaten Streak to Six

Billy Walsh scored in the 59th minute to lead the New York-New Jersey Metro-Stars over Dallas, 2-1, Wednesday night before 9,193 at East Rutherford, N.J.

Walsh’s long shot deflected off Dallas midfielder Lazo Alavanja before rolling past goalkeeper Matt Jordan.

Ted Eck opened the scoring for the Burn (7-11-3) in the 24th minute, ending MetroStar goalkeeper Tim Howard’s shutout streak at 203 minutes. Clint Mathis tied it with a long shot in the 31st minute.

The MetroStars (10-7-2) extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

Galaxy starting defenders Danny Califf and Greg Vanney were suspended by the league for Saturday’s match at Miami because of yellow cards they received in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Columbus.
