A body believed to be that of the 19-year-old son of NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving was found in a car submerged in a pond, authorities said.

Investigators had been looking for Cory Erving and his 1999 black Volkswagen Passat since May 28. They found the car, a body matching his description and his clothing Thursday afternoon.

The car wasn’t taken out of an L-shaped retention pond near the family’s home until about 8 p.m. An autopsy will be performed today to confirm the identity, said Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger.

No foul play was suspected, he said.

Erving said earlier that his son might have been using drugs at the time of his disappearance. Cory Erving had a history of drug and alcohol abuse as well as run-ins with the law.

The last time the family saw him, he was going to buy bread for a cookout. A $50,000 reward had been offered for information leading to his return.
