Dave Lombardoz, Valencia, caught three stripers totaling 40 pounds on one trip, then returned to catch five more weighing 52 pounds. Eastern Sierra

BRIDGEPORT AREA--is very good, despite heavy weed growth. Fish are showing at Sandy Point, Rainbow Point and in the Buckeye Channel in a bait-only bite. East Walker River still red hot. The water is off-color but it has not hurt the nymphing, and there has been some dry-fly action. The West Walker is now very fishable. Virginia Lakes all very good with some Alpers’ rainbows, especially for the float tubers fishing streamers. Both Upper and Lower Twin have yielded limits of pan-sized rainbows.

JUNE LAKE LOOP--Action steady. Mostly small fish but a few Alpers rainbows to six pounds. Silver Lake has been hot for fly anglers fishing from tubes. June and Gull are good for trollers or anglers still fishing with Power Bait. Grant Lake is a sleeper with a very good evening bite on dry flies fished behind a float. Parker and Walker lakes are providing action, especially for anglers fishing smaller lures for browns.

MAMMOTH AREA--Crowley Lake has been outstanding for fly anglers but just fair for trollers and bait fishermen. Midge hatch continues, starting about 9 a.m. and providing action until the wind starts. Twin Lakes, Mamie, George and Mary all producing pan-sized rainbows. Some good mid-morning dry-fly action at Upper Twin near the falls. Convict Lake continues to turn out some nice rainbows.

BISHOP AREA--Generally good action. Sabrina and South lakes have been particularly good. Water level in the lower Owens remains high and the river is tough to fish. The Owens River Gorge is good with a lot of browns to 16 inches. Pleasant Valley Reservoir is good in the evenings, especially for tubers fishing at the upper end.
