Boy Hit by Brick Is Improving

A 5-year-old Laguna Niguel boy was improving Friday but remained in critical condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange after suffering skull fractures when a 5-pound cement paving stone crashed through the windshield of the pickup truck in which he was riding early Wednesday.

“He’s been able to follow some verbal commands” such as grasping and releasing a finger, said UCI spokeswoman Kim Pine. “They’re some positive signs.”

California Highway Patrol investigators continued seeking information about the incident, which occurred as Bryan Donis’ father, Juan, was driving south on the San Diego Freeway near the McFadden Avenue overpass in Huntington Beach.
