Body of Newborn Found Floating in Surf
Swimmers found a body described as that of a “full-term” male baby in a plastic bag floating in the surf off Long Beach, a Fire Department official said Sunday.
Two people made the discovery about 2 p.m. close to shore near Junipero Avenue, said Long Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Pillsbury.
The swimmers discovered the body after bringing the bag to shore and opening it. The umbilical cord was still attached, Pillsbury said.
The cause of death was not immediately determined. An autopsy was pending.
