Park May Be Built Ahead of Schedule

Pardee Construction, builder of Pitts Ranch in eastern Camarillo, and park district officials are discussing plans for a 10-acre park years ahead of schedule.

Instead of paying incremental fees, Pardee would front the roughly $1 million needed for the Pitts Ranch Park that would otherwise take at least three years to collect, said John Williamson, general manager of the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District.

The number of recreational spaces maintained by the park district has grown steadily, putting a strain on its roughly $750,000 park-building budget, Williamson said.

This is first time a developer has offered a park upfront. The district recently paid $550,000 for the development of a seven-acre park, he said.

Though both sides must agree on what the area will look like, Pardee spokesman Jim Bizzell said it would likely have basketball and softball fields, an amphitheater area, tennis and basketball courts, and other sports outlets.
