City Council members are showing signs that they may be open to allowing a school to be built at McFadden Park, a former school site now serving as the only recreational area in the La Jolla community.

Officials met with school district representatives two weeks ago to discuss the issue, and since then some council members have been more open to the idea.

“I’m all for this school if our current programs and services can remain,” said Councilman Norman Z. Eckenrode.

City officials and district representatives met last month to discuss the matter, and they plan to meet again soon at the McFadden Park site. No date has been set for the meeting.
