The City Council announced it has renewed indefinitely its June offer to the Festival of the Arts to keep the festival in Laguna Beach after next year.

“The council has agreed to say that our offer is still on the table, and that we are willing to negotiate with the festival board at any time, anyplace,” said Mayor Kathleen Blackburn at Tuesday’s council meeting,

Blackburn said the council hasn’t received any word from the festival board since it submitted its offer.

But Sherri Butterfield, president of the Festival of the Arts, said negotiations may not happen. The city has had the opportunity to negotiate with the board for the last 42 months, she said.

The board is considering a proposal from San Clemente to move to a 20-acre site in the Talega development after its lease with Laguna Beach runs out in September 2001.
