The Planning Commission this week recommended that the City Council approve a no-parking zone along the south side of Pala to make room for buses that serve people at Vocational Visions, a training and vocational center for the disabled.

The number of buses lining up in the afternoon to pick up people from Vocational Visions often exceeds the parking and loading space at the facility, causing backups onto Pala that block the flow of traffic.

If the City Council approves the proposal, the parking restrictions would only be in effect weekdays. Buses would be exempt from the restrictions along the 200-foot section of curb, allowing them to line up on Pala without blocking the street.

The commission’s next meeting is at 7 p.m., July 24 at City Hall, 25909 Pala.
