Parents of Slain Student Settle Suit Against School
The parents of a girl killed by a suicidal fellow student at John Glenn High School have agreed to a $125,000 settlement of their wrongful-death suit against the school, their lawyer said Friday.
Catherine Tran, 16, daughter of Tho Tran and Kim Ann Phung, was shot to death outside a classroom on Oct. 22, 1997, by her former boyfriend, Robert Drang, attorney Leonard Sands said. After shooting the girl, Drang fatally wounded himself, the lawyer said.
In their suit, the girl’s parents alleged that the school district was liable because the campus was not properly secured.
