Lindborg, Nelson Advance to Finals

Lenny Lindborg of South Laguna and Jim Nelson of Irvine advanced Friday to the finals of the men’s 65s doubles at the USTA Hardcourt National Championships in Huntington Beach.

Lindborg and Nelson defeated Dick Doss of Newport Beach and Buddy Lomax of San Antonio, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, and will play Bob Perry of San Diego and John Sahration of La Jolla in today’s final.

Advancing to today’s semifinals in the men’s 55s doubles were Daud Ahmed of Laguna Niguel and Dennis Trout of Solvang, Dean Corley of Aliso Viejo and Michael Stewart of Blue Bell, Pa., and Ken Stuart and Larry Collins of Newport Beach.

Sondra Michelson of Dana Point lost to third-seeded Luana Magnani of Pasadena, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of an Acura Classic qualifying tournament at the Rancho San Clemente Tennis Club.

Organizers of the Classic have scheduled three tournaments in which players can earn a wild-card entry into the qualifying draw, which begins July 29 at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
