At County Fair, Readers Can Ride for Free

Share

Youngsters who spend extra time this summer in the library rather than the swimming pool can win free carnival rides at the 78th annual Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona.

Ray Cammack Shows, which brings the carnival to the fair, is offering free tickets through the fair’s Read to Ride program as incentives for children in kindergarten through grade 6 to do more reading.

For every two books read, a student is eligible to receive three ride tickets. The maximum is six books. Through second grade, students are allowed to read picture books; older students must read books with text that weren’t assigned at school.

Each student must also write a report or draw a picture for each book. Reports have to be at least 25 words long; drawings must include captions and each must be attached to an entry form.

The forms must be handed in at the America’s Kids building at the fair, where the carnival passes will be given out. The contest runs until Aug. 31. The fair opens Sept. 14 and runs through Oct. 1.

More information and entry forms are available by calling the fair at (909) 865-4234 or going to its Web site at https://www.fairplex.com.
