The City Council on July 25 will consider whether to put term limits before the voters in the November election. The Council last Tuesday asked the city attorney to draft an amendment that would alter the term limits law, possibly by lifting limits altogether or by changing the length of some officials’ terms.

Council members and the mayor are allowed to serve no more than two consecutive terms. The council also asked the city attorney to draft other amendments to the city’s charter, including a raise in City Council wages, repealing a law allowing the council to hire a special prosecutor and limiting the Anaheim Firefighters Assn.’s ability to use binding interest arbitration in contract negotiations.
