Louis Quilico; Canadian Baritone Known for Famous Opera Roles

Louis Quilico, 75, internationally recognized Canadian baritone who sang many of the most famous opera roles. Quilico sang with major operatic companies in Europe and the Americas during his 46-year career. Among them were the Vienna Staatsoper, Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires, Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Thermes of Caracan, the operas of Venice, Turin and Florence, and the Canadian Opera Company and the Opera du Quebec. He made his stage debut in his native Montreal at age 29 in a production of Boris Godunov. Quilico rose quickly to stardom, winning such awards as the Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. He recorded two albums with his wife, concert pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico. On Saturday in Toronto of complications after surgery.
