Phyllis Jean Hunter, a homemaker and former hospital employee, died Thursday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She was 74.

She was born on June 22, 1926, in Grand Junction, Iowa, and has been a resident of Ventura Country for the past 50 years.

Hunter had worked in the housekeeping department at Ventura County Medical Center for eight years in the 1960s and ‘70s.

As an active member of the Bethany Chapel Assembly of God church, she was very involved in women’s ministries preparing crafts and projects for children that were distributed by missionaries. She also worked with the “Brown Bag” Food Share program for five years.

Hunter is survived by daughter Linda Hunter of Ventura, son Larry Wayne Hunter of Oxnard and brother Frank Heerick of Arizona.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Chapel Assembly of God in Oxnard with the Rev. Mike Tolbert officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
