3 Student Leaders Receive Scholarships

Three Ventura County student leaders received recognition for their commitment to education and the community.

The students each received a $1,000 college scholarship from the Pride and Leadership for African-American Youth program.

The students are Kandiss Monique Crone of Oxnard High School, Kathryn Hill of Moorpark High School and Michael Williams Jr. of Oak Park High School.

The Ventura County youths were among 30 students honored at an awards luncheon in Los Angeles.

Those who were eligible for the scholarships are African Americans living in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino or Ventura counties.

Candidates submitted an application, a letter of recommendation and an essay describing how their leadership skills will affect the African American community.
