The Mid Valley YMCA plans a “Family Fun Night” Friday to introduce the community to the facility’s improved look and family-friendly programs.

The free event, from 6 to 9 p.m., will include tours, swimming, games, arts and crafts, an aerobics step class and food.

“We renovated the entire facility and we also have done repositioning to connect to the changing community,” said Hwa Stacy, vice president and executive director of the facility.

The remodeled facility includes separate rooms for beginning and returning exercisers; cardiovascular and strength training. There are also free-weight rooms, four newly renovated locker rooms and a room staffed with trained child-care workers who watch kids while their parents exercise.

Family-oriented programs include a preschool and recreation time for families to exercise, swim and play together.

“We are trying to provide healthy programs for our children and families and build strong kids, strong families and a strong community,” Stacy said.

The Mid Valley YMCA, 6901 Lennox Ave. in Van Nuys, offers daily swimming and exercise classes from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

With recruitment in mind, Stacy said the YMCA plans to make “Family Fun Night” a monthly event. For more information, call (818) 989-3800.
