Fired Over Book
* Re “Pasadena Police Officer Fired Over Book,” July 18: The firing of the Pasadena police officer is another assault on the 1st Amendment. One of the first actions of any corrupt administration or regime is to make dissent or revelation punishable by death or banishment. Writing a book that exposes misdeeds, some of which may have been committed while on duty (public duty), may expose the participants for what they really are.
Chief Bernard Melekian, you cannot clean up your department by shunning those who dare to speak out on matters of public interest. Hopefully the appeal will follow the Supreme Court rulings and cost you a lot of money, maybe your job.
