DANA POINT
The City Council is scheduled on Tuesday to consider supporting an Orange County Sheriff’s Department program aimed at reducing accidents caused by unlicensed drivers and people driving with suspended licenses.
The Traffic Violator Apprehension Program, a regional enforcement program, would involve checkpoints for license status. The program would run in the county’s unincorporated areas and all contract cities that approve it.
The program was initiated after a department study indicated that a higher-than-normal number of accidents are caused by unlicensed and suspended-license drivers.
