Staying Young, Turning 45 at Club Scream

Share

If, as Dayle Gloria notes, the true definition of rock ‘n’ roll is staying young forever, then sign me up. The veteran Hollywood club promoter is turning 45 in high style, with a two-night run of Club Scream at the Playroom in Hollywood on Aug. 7 and 8. Eight months sober and 25 pounds lighter, Gloria’s in fighting form and so is her club. Let’s put it this way: The birthday bash’s surprise guests could light this woman’s fire any ol’ day. Opening acts include the sizzling hot chica group LoBall (Aug. 7), which has graciously invited Gloria to perform Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” (oh yeah, we’ll be there for that). LoBall’s lead singer is actress Pauley Perrette, whose true-blue beauty is exceeded only by her true-blue talent. Perrette’s hombre, Coyote Shivers, performs the following night, Aug. 8.

Speaking of hombres, that finer-than-fine quartet, Tsar, whose debut Hollywood Records album just driz-opped this week, showed some serious star quality last Thursday at Vynyl. The new nightclub at the old Moguls sounded dang good, too--loud and proud and appropriately raucous. We hope Michael Eisner, who showed up to root for the home team, brought earplugs--especially when the quartet lit into a Backstreet Boys cover for its encore. . . . Speaking of hot boys in the ‘hood, Ricky Martin was kicking it at Las Palmas in Hollywood, at Brent Bolthouse’s new Wednesday night promotion. Also on hand was B-Real, basking in the cool fact that his group, Cypress Hill, can disappear for years at a time, but always come back larger than life. So you wanna be a rap superstar? Hell yeah. . . . Speaking of superstars basking in superstardom, checked out Keenen Ivory Wayans’ big-old smile last week at the new Hugo’s. Seems even big-time directors don’t mind hanging in the ‘hood, Valley-style. . . . Speaking of style, promoter Gregg Wadley called to hip us to the news that edgy rockers Dragline are scheduled to perform at the second anniversary of “Fast Times at Dragonfly,” on Aug. 5. Zip-a-de-do-da.
