Logo Mania

* Re “Livin’ La Vida Logo,” Opinion, July 23: For a long time both my husband and I have gazed with wonder at the logo-decorated weirdos wandering around looking like sandwich boards. It took someone as sharp, eloquent and witty as Ilene Beckerman to set things straight.

When Beckerman and I first became friends at Hunter College Elementary School in NYC, the only logo we sported was the H.C.E.S. on our lavender beanies. True, we had to buy Capezio shoes and Strook coats and the like, but at least the labels were hidden on the inside. In fact, as I recall, Ilene even kept a brown paper wrapper on her copy of “Forever Amber” (which she never let me read).
