Renovation Planned at City Golf Course

Share

Los Robles Golf Course, the city’s only public course, will undergo a $10.2-million renovation this fall that will include installing a new irrigation system, replacing the greens and building larger tee boxes.

The course has irrigation problems, and some areas become soggy and muddy while other portions don’t receive any water and become dry and brown.

The greens have also been a problem for many golfers. Instead of lush, closely trimmed grass on the green, many have patches of dirt, patches of grass and ball divots, which are terrible for golfers, said Steve Butler, Los Robles Golf Course’s head golf pro.

A new banquet center and pro shop will also be built. About $6 million of the renovation will be paid by revenue generated from the golf course. A city bond issue will cover the rest of the cost.

On Tuesday, the City Council approved beginning the project’s bidding process, which will start next week. The work will begin in October and be done within a year, said Donald Buck, assistant project manager.

Los Robles will stay open during construction but have only nine holes available for golfers.
