Sometimes it’s difficult to tell from a Web site’s name exactly what its function is and whom it is designed to serve. No such problem here. This site is definitely for the golfer. It claims to be the first and largest nationwide Internet-based golf reservation network, and membership is free.

Founded in 1997 by Eric Campbell, the site was originally called SelectTeeTimes.com, but the name was changed to reflect an expansion of services. Members can set up tee times at more than 11,000 public courses--including 15 in the Los Angeles area--and obtain discount travel packages and qualify for prizes and rewards.

If there is a problem getting a tee time, a member can call a toll-free number, (877) 486-GOLF, for assistance.
