The city’s plans to widen East 17th Street drew criticism Wednesday night from most of the roughly 50 residents and business owners during a meeting of newly formed neighborhood group.
The East Side Community and Merchants Assn. was formed last month to provide a voice for Costa Mesa residents and business owners who oppose the idea of expanding East 17th Street to six lanes.
City and county plans call for the widening because officials predict traffic, expected to increase in the future, would otherwise spill onto residential streets.
