The California Lottery will begin selling its new SuperLotto Plus tickets Sunday.

The game, a revamped version of SuperLotto, is designed to attract more gamblers by building bigger jackpots, similar to those in the popular multistate Powerball game.

To offer the type of hefty prize that has unleashed buying frenzies, lottery officials have changed the odds of winning from 1 in 18 million to 1 in 41 million.

If no one wins the SuperLotto jackpot tonight, the starting jackpot for SuperLotto Plus will be $13 million. If there is a winner tonight, the starting jackpot for SuperLotto Plus will be $7 million--the new minimum offered under the revised game.

Under the new rules, players will choose five numbers from 1 to 47 and one “mega” number from 1 to 27. The second field of numbers will lead to bigger jackpots by making it more difficult to win the big prize.
