Late Three-Goal Flurry Leads the Earthquakes to a Victory

With San Jose trailing in the 88th minute, Abdul Thompson Conteh, Dario Brose and Khodadad Azizi combined for a three-goal burst that led the Earthquakes over the Colorado Rapids, 4-2, Saturday before 8,129 at San Jose.

Thompson Conteh scored the tying goal in the 88th and Brose the go-ahead in the 90th minute. Azizi scored the final goal two minutes into injury time.

The Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last 11 games at Spartan Stadium.

New England 2, Miami 0--Ted Chronopoulos and John Harkes scored in the final 20 minutes at Foxboro, Mass., as the Revolution retained sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division.

Chronopoulos broke a scoreless tie in the 72nd minute, netting his fourth goal of the season off Imad Baba’s cross.

Tampa Bay 3, Dallas 2--Mamadou Diallo scored two goals to lead the Mutiny before 7,099 at Dallas.

The Burn was without forwards Jason Kreis and Ariel Graziani, who had accounted for 14 of the team’s 18 goals going into the contest. Both were called up for national team games.

Columbus 1, Washington 1--Jeff Cunningham scored his first goal of the year two minutes into the game for the Crew before 19,431 at Columbus, Ohio.

The defending league champion United countered with 11 minutes left, when A.J. Wood scored.

There were no shots on goal in the two overtime periods.

Miami midfielders Henry Gutierrez and Martin Machon have been fined and suspended by Major League Soccer for confronting officials after last Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Columbus. Gutierrez was suspended one game and fined $500, Machon was suspended two games and fined $1,500.
