Sister Martha Pellow, 111, believed to have been the oldest nun in the United States. Born Margaret Pellow on May 18, 1889, in Oconto Falls, Wis., Sister Martha entered the convent on June 10, 1908. Two years ago, the National Religious Retirement Office in Washington, D.C., announced that she was the nation’s oldest nun. “I’m happy. I’ve led a long life. I’ve done the best I could through the years,” she said at the celebration of her 109th birthday. On Friday at Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in Green Bay, Wis.
