City Engineer George Alvarez is happy to see a project that has been in the works for 16 years finally get underway.
On Monday night, the City Council approved a $10-million project that will expand Bristol Street from four to six lanes between Warner Avenue and Memory Lane. Alvarez, who has also been with the city for 16 years, said a mixture of federal funds, gas-tax money and funds from Measure M will pay for the construction, which should begin within 30 days.
The contract for the first phase was awarded to Long Beach-based PALP Inc./DBA Excel Paving Co. The project, which should be completed December 2001, will include sidewalks, curbs, gutters, street lighting and extensive landscaping between McFadden to St. Andrews Place. The second phase will be widening the bridge at Santiago Creek north to Memory Lane.
