Sitting in his official seat at the dais Tuesday, Councilman John M. Gullixson announced to his colleagues that he would sue the city to recover money he is spending to defend himself in a lawsuit brought against him by City Manager Arthur C. Simonian.
Council members voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to wait until June 20 to decide whether to pay Gullixson’s legal costs in that lawsuit. Gullixson, who has already filed a claim against the city seeking reimbursement, said that would be too long a wait for him. He added that all council members should have the right to choose their own attorneys and have the city pay for it, particularly with the “public scrutiny” they’ve received with the Simonian issue.
