Submarine to Be Displayed for Public
A display model of the self-propelled, one-person submersible used to explore the 12 U.S. marine sanctuaries will be on public display at Channel Islands Harbor starting Monday, according to the Ventura County Maritime Museum.
DeepWorker is being used in the five-year study of the sanctuaries that is part of the Sustainable Seas Expedition Program, a partnership of the National Geographic Society and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The DeepWorker replica, on display next week at the Fisherman’s Wharf, is the same submarine stripped of its electronics and propulsion systems.
It will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through June 18.
The real sub is set for several dives this month in the Channel Islands sanctuary, which will be its second set of dives in the sanctuary off the Ventura County coast.
