Share

This year’s first class of the Oxnard Police Citizens Academy will hold a graduation ceremony Wednesday at City Hall.

The academy, which meets one evening a week for three months, gives the public an insider’s view of the Police Department. The 25 participants got an overview of gang tracking, narcotics and vice investigation, weaponless defense, crime analysis, patrol, code enforcement and graffiti suppression.

They also watched demonstrations by the SWAT and K-9 teams, and visited 911 dispatch center. Mock traffic stops and a session of firing weapons on the pistol range were also part of the program.

The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 305 W. 3rd St. The public is invited and alumni of previous academies are welcome.
