Former Coach Sentenced for Sexual Battery of Girl
A former part-time basketball coach at Pasadena’s Blair High School was sentenced to 250 days in county jail Monday for the sexual battery of a 15-year-old girl.
Charles Stringer, 24, of Altadena, who has been in jail since January, was given 231 days’ credit for the time he has served.
Stringer was arrested after an incident with a female student in a tunnel under Marengo Avenue.
“There was some inappropriate activity with a young lady at the high school,” Deputy City Prosecutor Alison Weissman said. “He won’t be working with children anymore.”
Stringer was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of sexual battery. Pasadena Superior Court Judge Frederick R. Rotenberg placed him on probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender and enroll in therapy.
Stringer was hired by the Pasadena Unified School District in 1999. At the time, he was on three years’ probation for a battery conviction that stemmed from charges he fondled girls at Pasadena Boys and Girls Club in 1997 and 1998.
That battery charge did not require that Stringer register as a sex offender, so district officials say they did not know of the case. Stringer also had worked for the Pasadena schools previously when he had no criminal record.
