Metrolink Unveils Service for San Bernardino, 4% Rate Hike

Share

Metrolink will boost fares 4%, effective July 1, under a new $190.3 million budget approved last week by the regional commuter rail line’s board of directors.

Metrolink has also initiated Sunday service from San Bernardino to Los Angeles, the first time in its seven-year history that the rail line will be able to offer commuter service every day of the week.

A second rush hour train on the San Bernardino line also will be added, meaning that Metrolink will be operating 126 trains each weekday.

The new annual operating budget also includes two additional Saturday round trips on the Riverside line and four Sunday round trips on the San Bernardino line to Los Angeles, where trains will tie in with Amtrak service. The Sunday trains started June 11.

The budget anticipates that fare revenues will grow 10% over last year’s, to $35.3 million. That includes the 4% increase.

Average weekday ridership is expected to be up 7%, to 30,261.
