Panel Will Vote Again on Chase Knolls Bid

Share

The city attorney’s office has ruled that a proposal to declare the Chase Knolls Apartments a Historical-Cultural Monument must return to the Cultural Heritage Commission for another vote.

With three votes needed to recommend the designation, the five-member panel deadlocked 2-1 last week, with two members absent. Assistant City Atty. Frank Orozco said Tuesday that the matter has been rescheduled for June 21.

If the panel again fails to make a decision, the matter would automatically go to the Los Angeles City Council, where approval by 10 of the 15 council members would be needed for the proposal to pass.

If the commission votes to recommend the designation, the matter still goes to the City Council, but only eight votes would then be needed to finalize the action.

Tenants of the apartment complex are seeking the designation to block a developer from demolishing the buildings to make way for new apartments.
