Brea police have stepped up parking enforcement in the Birch Street Promenade in the last couple of months, a move that has boosted the number of tickets motorists are finding on their windshields.

Lt. Dave Carlock said the more aggressive police stance is the result of repeated requests from the downtown parking committee, a consortium of residents living in or near the Promenade, business owners and city officials.

“The advisory committee has been begging the police to enforce,” he said.

Most of that pressure has come from the residents of the Ash Street Cottages, who live next to Birch Street Promenade. Former City Manager Frank Benest pledged his support to keep patrons off residential streets when the Edwards Cinemas were being constructed.
